The Scout
In the early nineteen hundreds a group of boy scouts paid a visit to the caverns. While exploring the caverns one of the poor boys got separated from the rest and was only noticed missing by the scout leader at the end of their adventure. The scout leader started to panic and frantically looked for the boy but to no avail. Failing to find the missing boy the leader enlisted the help of more people to help find him as quickly as possible. As day turned to night the search party finally found what was left of the poor young lad in a remote part of the caverns. The rescues where shocked and shaken by what they had found the boys carcass was cannibalised and covered in bite marks. Upon arriving at the scene the boy’s parents who were both devote Christians refused to believe that their son had been the victim of cannibals and fearing that any controversial stories could halt the funeral of the boy they pleaded that the circumstance of his death be covered up. Feeling guilty and sorry for the family everyone involved agreed and the true circumstance of the boy’s demise were never spoke of again and ruled as death by misadventure.
A Childs Tale
In the late Eighteenth century four children decided to explore the sandstone caverns and vanished. One child survived and told a terrifying tale about men with beards who killed his three friends and chased him. The petrified child stumbled over human bones in the caves and finally managed to scramble through an opening to the surface as a hand was grabbing at his ankle. The authorities were concerned because a number of people had gone missing in the area near the cave entrances. Two heavily armed soldiers descended into the caverns with torches and claimed that they not only found a heap of human bones, they also found the ruins of an ancient church of some unknown denomination. The interior of the church was lit by three large candles and grotesque gargoyles formed part of an altar. Throughout the exploration of the underground, the soldiers said they felt as if they were being watched, and also heard voices speaking in an unknown language. One report said that a child's head was found in a cave, along with evidence of cannibalism. After a second investigation, the caves either collapsed or gunpowder was used to seal them.
